Vintage Design
Conceived in the high regency taste, and of that period, this chaise has beautiful flowing lines and the black and gold colour scheme that was so popular at the time. What sets this model apart from so many others is the high quality of the mounts. Rather than simply using gilded wooden elements, this piece is profusely mounted and the floral paterae in particular are of outstanding quality. Having four quality, unusual, original brass castors. The chased leaf mounts on the legs are very unusual and the fact that mounts are also employed on the back of the piece, a sure sign of superior quality. These additional mounts make this piece much more sculptural and allow it to be used in the middle of a room if required. Having four quality, unusual and original brass castors.
The daybed or chaise is one of the pieces of furniture most associated with the regency period and there are few better examples of the form than this piece. It is good enough to be considered to be in the manner of the Royal makers Morel and Seddon and could possibly be associated with their workshops. The large size also suggests both a maker and a client of some importance.
