A Really is an Exceptionally Nice Looking Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock. Circa Late 19th Century. Very Desirable Small 1 Gallon Size with “Ears” ( Side Handles ). It has a Wonderful – Unusually Large Deep Blue Hand Decorated Bird on a Branch on the Front. It is Embossed – Signed by the Maker “SOMERSET POTTERS WORKS” ( Massachusetts ). Condition as Follows – It has Numerous Cracks Primarily on The Lower Back Side & Base. These Types of Cracks Typically Occur as a Result of Liquid Contents Freezing in Basements Etc. PLEASE NOTE That I Have Injected Epoxy Into Some of the Cracks So as to Preserve – Bolster & Structurally Stabilize its Integrity for Today’s Use and Display Purposes. It also has a Few Small Chips at the Top Rim – Interior Perimeter. Did you Know that Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household’s and that They were Made For Everyday – Utilitarian Use. It does have a Some Glaze and Surface Imperfections all of which Would Have Occurred in the Making – Kiln Firing Process. These are Also Quite Common as these Types of Stoneware Items were Produced in Batches with Multiple Other Pieces at at The Same Time in a Large Size Kilns .
